Guangdong to build data centre cluster in Shaoguan, with reinforced energy targets

Recently, central government departments replied in a letter authorizing the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to start the construction of a national-level internet data centre hub in Shaoguan, which will be part of a country-wide integrated network. A data centre cluster will be set up in Shaoguan High-tech Zone to meet the real-time computing power needs of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and other cities. Several conditions are to be met. Notably, the power usage effectiveness (PUE, ratio of total power used to power effectively used by IT equipment) of the data centres must be below 1.25, and the utilization rate of renewable energy must be significantly improved.
