The Qinghai Provincial Government officially approved the construction of Tongde and Maqin pumped storage projects, located in Tongde County, Qinghai Province. The upper reservoir has an average elevation of 3,600 meters, and the lower reservoir is the reservoir area of the Maldang Hydropower Station. The two projects will represent a total installed capacity of 3.8GW. They will be used for daily regulation of the electricity grid with a continuous power generation capacity of 6 hours. With utilization hours expected to reach 2010 hours, they will consume the equivalent of 10.2 TWh of electricity to produce 7.6 TWh, reaching a comprehensive efficiency of 75%.
