Most of China’s energy state owned enterprises (SOE) have released their plans for the 14th five-year period. These plans notably include targets for the installation of new energy cumulative installed capacity (wind, solar, biomass, etc.). According to these plans and estimations based on investments, the total capacity planned by the SOEs for the 2021-2025 period represents 670 GW, more than the current total installed capacity of wind and solar in China. This very high target can be attributed to estimation increases for already well implemented SOEs such as State Power Investment Company (SPIC, 40 GW to 80 GW target), or to investments of new players such as oil giants Petrochina, Sinopec or CNOOC.
