China plans to reach 100-200 kt of annual hydrogen production from renewable energy by 2025

The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) recently released its ‘Medium- and long-term plan for the development of hydrogen energy industry (2021-2035)’. The document sets targets for China’s hydrogen industry in 2025, 2030, and 2035. According to the document, NDRC expects that hydrogen production from renewable energy will reach 100-200 kt/year, which would make green hydrogen an important part of China’s new hydrogen consumption, and have 50,000 fuel cell vehicles on the roads by 2025. NDRC will also promote the integration of hydrogen, electric, and thermal energy systems.
